- There is a lot of talk about the end of High-def DVDs. Is this true? Everything took a new turn at the beginning of the year. Right before the much anticipated Consumer Electronics show, Warner Bros. announced they would back Blu-ray Disc exclusively. Why is this bad news for H-D DVDs? Simply because Warner Bros. is the largest seller of DVDs (20% of the US market). Also Warner has 70-80% of the Hollywood content released under them. Good news for Blu-Ray Discs.
Someone just told me I can not pack extra batteries for my next trip out of town. This is a must for those of us who carry our Laptops and Cameras with us everywhere. What is this all about? It is now against Federal regulation for passengers on US flights to pack spare lithium ion batteries in their checked luggage. This includes the batteries you use with your notebook PC or camera. What this means is that you may pack these batteries only if they are installed in the device; otherwise, you must place these in a plastic bag and carry them aboard in your hand luggage. The reason for this change in policy is a suspicion that batteries had a part in a fire on a cargo flight in Feb. 2006. Better safe than sorry.
- Why is a desktop better than a laptop? If you are ok with out having the laptop's portability then these are your reasons. First of all you can buy a well priced laptop and you can buy a well priced desktop, but a well priced desktop has the power of a high priced laptop. Secondly, desktops are not easily stolen, lost or broken. Last but not least posture: you can't have good posture when your keyboard and monitor are inches apart. This is made slightly better by plugging in a full keyboard and a wireless mouse.
- Do you still watch Analog TV? Well do not worry help is on the way. But you have a little less than a year to procure a digital to analog converter box and prepare that dinosaur TV of yours. As mandated by federal law, on Feb. 17, 2009 over-the-air TV will switch from analog to digital. So how much is a converter box? Right now you are looking at $60-$80, not bad especially for those who qualify the government will subsidize your purchase with a $40 coupon. You have been reminded, Feb. 2009.
